Indian DTC Aggregator Goat Brand Labs Raises $50 Million

Goat Brand Labs has raised $50 million in fresh funding as the Indian direct-to-consumer brand aggregator looks to acquire more premium brands and help them scale globally.

WHO: Goat Brand Labs was established in 2021 by Rishi Vasudev, a former Flipkart executive, and Rameswar Misra, who previously founded menswear brand Turms and served as Senior Vice President of female fashion e-commerce marketplace Voonik. Goat acquires DTC lifestyle brands with annual revenue from $2 million to $10 million, providing the resources required to accelerate their growth.

WHY: The fresh capital will be deployed to acquire several more brands to help them scale globally. It is in advanced discussions with 12 brands.

"I welcome our new investors and the strong support from our existing ones in this funding round. We will continue to acquire high-potential D2C brands across the Lifestyle segments and scale them to huge outcomes."

DETAILS:

  • Goat Brand Labs raised $50 million in a Series A and includes some capital that has been raised as debt. 
  • The round saw participation from new investors Winter Capital, 9Unicorns,Venture Catalysts, Vivriti Capital, and Oxyzo, as well as existing investors Tiger Global, Flipkart Ventures, Mayfield, Nordstar, Better Capital, Trifecta.
  • The new round follows $36 million in funding.
  • Within the first year the business has acquired 15 D2C brands including The Label Life, Frangipani, Doggie Dabbas, trueBrowns, Abhishti, and beauty and skincare platforms Neemli and Nutriglow.
  • Goat has partnered with the founders of the first acquisitions to scale its portfolio by almost 85% and is said to be profitable. 
  • Other aggregator start-ups in the India market include Mensa, Global Bees, EvenFlow Brands, 10club, and Powerhouse91.
